News: Upcoming Star Wars Legion New Releases 2022

3 April 2022  |  Darth Maul

In September last year Atomic Mass (who have taken over Star Wars Legion from Fantasy Flight Games) released a new teaser trailer, showing the "Shadow Collective", which is a "Crime Syndicate" faction for Star Wars Legion!

According to Star Wars lore, and covered in the Clone Wars animated series, the Shadow Collective was a criminal alliance founded by Darth Maul during the Clone Wars.  It consisted of Death Watch (a Mandalorian splinter faction), and the Black Sun and Pyke Criminal Syndicates all of which can be seen in the teaser trailer.

7 New Products Announced

Yesterday (4th April 2022), they launched further details of the specific upcoming products.

This will consist of:

Rather than a new core set as per the original Legion and then the Clone Wars version, this time they have gone just for individual unit expansion boxes, plus the group "Mercenary" set.  The idea being that you can either add the various troops / leaders to your current forces as paid mercenaries, or you can put them together as an entirely new and separate "Shadow Collective" faction.  This should add a lot more flexibility and variety to your Legion games!

The Essentials box is presumably there to fill the gap left by the lack of a full core box - so if you already have a core box you don't need this, but if you are new to the game and want to start off without buying a core set then this will provide some of the missing pieces - although not the range rulers. But if you're playing against someone else that does have the core set you can always shares these.  And of course these are already available in a separate range ruler pack.

Star Wars Legion: Shadow Collective Mercenary Starter Set

The galaxy’s seedy underbelly comes to Star Wars: Legion with the Shadow Collective Starter Set! This set introduces mercenaries to the game, inviting players to hire units from the notorious Black Sun and Pyke syndicates to join other faction’s armies. Alternatively, Maul himself can unite these disparate criminals under the banner of the Shadow Collective and lead them as a standalone force. Alongside his Mandalorian Super Commandos, they form a threat that could bring the galaxy to its knees.

Whichever path they choose, this set gives players plenty of new options for building their armies with 22 miniatures, including Maul, a unit of Shadow Collective Mandalorian Super Commandos, a unit of Black Sun Enforcers, and a unit of Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers. Additionally, players can further customize these forces with 30 upgrade cards that unlock heavy weapons, characters like Rook Kast, and more. Finally, this set also includes three command cards for use with the new mercenaries, three new command cards for Maul, and reprints of Maul’s three Separatist Alliance command cards.

Adding a corps unit of six Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers that can join Rebel, Imperial, Republic, or Separatist armies or band together with their fellow mercenaries in the Shadow Collective, this expansion gives players even more versatile options for building their forces.

Star Wars Legion: Mandalorian Super Commandos unit expansion

The Mandalorian Super Commandos bend the galaxy to Maul’s will in this expansion for Star Wars: Legion! Previously members of the notorious Death Watch, these elite Mandalorian warriors now follow Maul because he wields the Darksaber. With them, players have a powerful new special forces option for their Shadow Collective forces.

Star Wars Legion: Gar Saxon a Mandalorian Commander expansion

Release Dates

The Official Release Date is estimated to be Friday 17th June 2022 (subject to all the usual delays etc), and all products have the same date listed so it looks like this first wave will all launch together (subject to the usual half launching a few weeks late because it was on a separate container which got delayed!).  So officially 17th June, but who knows with all of the supply chain issues going on at the moment... So only a few months to go!!!

[*Update 8th April 2022:  We have now discovered that the official asmodee US website and the official asmodee UK websites have different information for the Super Commandos.  The UK one shows Rook Kast on the back cover and states "7 figures" while the US one shows the back of the box without Rook Kast and states only "6 figures".  Recent comments from Atomic Mass suggest that the US box image is correct and that Rook Kast is not included in the super commandos box]
